Example from WPC 2017 IB. The actual puzzle used larger list that contained unused words.

Symbols from words in the given list have been replaced by numbers. Each instance of the same symbol is replaced by the same number and each different symbol is replaced by a different number. Identify which number replaces the given symbols.

(Rules from WPC 2017 IB)

History of the puzzleEdit

The idea (of the culturally-dependent version without a list) is often credited to Elizabeth Kingsley (USA), who published the puzzle under the name double-crostic in 1934. [1]
